I enjoy learning (a lot!) What I learn in one class/course inevitably leads to another area of interest. When it comes to learning, being in IT gives me a wide range of areas/topics to choose from. However, putting what I learn into practice is equally as important.
I have only been working with the Silicon Valley Project Management (SVPM) team for a short time. So far, the experience has been a positive one. I am learning while putting into practice what I learn, which is the best of both worlds. I am learning from Agile Practitioners and Project Management professionals about Agile practices and principles, Scrum, and Project Management while gaining more experience working on real projects.
I have been encouraged to take on tasks and do things outside of my comfort zone. I can do so knowing I don’t have to get everything right on the first try. A great example is I recently received a message from the Scrum Master of the SEO & Marketing team that stated, “Remember this is a safe space for you to learn.” This has been the attitude of everyone that I have interacted with!
I feel that I have hit the trifecta of (1) learning, (2) doing, and (3) knowing that I am in a place where I will gain new skills and knowledge by working with a diverse group of colleagues with different work and life experiences and perspectives from mine. It is a great opportunity to work with other volunteers who not only bring their professional knowledge and experience but who also bring a spirit of excellence.
